![]() ![]() But another weapon might be the one that clicks for you more. I really enjoy the hunting horn and hitting the monster while fitting in songs. I think the key is finding a weapon that clicks for you? Personally Longsword sold me hard on MHW because I really really like the mechanics of building meter to do a big damage move + learning the game well enough to do the counterslash ability of the LS more and more. Loop is do the story quests while checking your weapon/armor tree each time you meet a new monster to see if you can get an upgrade > gather the monster bits for that upgrade. You can play without Iceborne, but won't have access to the new abilities/clutch claw mechanic early. Be aware that you will start with the option to use defender armor and special weapons, these are meant for people to breeze through the main content and get to Iceborne, but I don't recommend using them since they make the game way easier than it should be, and hinder actually learning how to play. Other tips are: Don't use the lock-on camera, always eat before a quest and create an item set so you spend less time organizing your items.Īs for Iceborne, it is only accessible after you finish the main game's story, so you don't really need it now. I do recommend watching a weapon's tutorial video (I personally suggest watching Arekkz Gaming for those) so that you can immediately start learning a weapon fully, since some mechanics aren't even explained in the game. The main satisfaction comes from learning your weapons full moveset and using it to its maximum potential, as well as adjusting your gameplay to each monster, and learning said monster as well. The main thing this game shares with soulsborne games is that you commit to your attacks and the existence of the stamina bar, however some weapons/attacks will drain stamina while others don't, so it isn't 1:1 comparable to souls in that sense. I want to see if I can "get" these games finally. ![]() What is my actual loop of gameplay?Īny rate, going in to this with an open heart and open mind. I guess for me I just never quite got the "hook" of the MH games when I've tried them. I know it's not a direct comparison, but the intentional combat with wind ups and opportunity windows is something I'm fine with. Do I need Iceborn to get in to it right now, or can I just start with the base game?Īlso, any tips to help me unlock the joy and enjoyment people get out of these games? I'm good with intentional combat, I play a lot of soulsey games. I can't resist a Steam sale, so I'm giving MH another try, on PC this time.
